By CalQ · Updated 18 October 2026
There are two ways to write Hindi on a computer or phone: the old Kruti Dev 010 font (still asked for in some offices and typing tests) and Unicode Hindi, which every modern device supports out of the box. This guide covers both.
Part 1: Install Kruti Dev 010 on Windows
- Get the Kruti Dev 010 font file (
.ttf) from a source you trust, and check its licence terms. - If it came in a
.zip, right-click it and choose Extract All. - Right-click the
.ttffile and choose Install (or Install for all users). - Close and reopen MS Word, then pick Kruti Dev 010 from the font list.
To type in Kruti Dev you use the Remington layout — see the Kruti Dev 010 keyboard chart. Kruti Dev can't be used on Android or iPhone keyboards; on mobile, use Unicode Hindi instead.
Part 2: Type Unicode Hindi on Windows
- Open Settings → Time & language → Language & region.
- Click Add a language, search for Hindi and install it.
- Under Hindi, open Language options and add a keyboard: Hindi Phonetic (type how it sounds) or Devanagari – INSCRIPT.
- Switch between English and Hindi with Windows + Space.
Part 3: Type Hindi on Android
- Open Gboard settings → Languages → Add keyboard.
- Choose Hindi, then the abc → हिंदी layout to type in English letters and get Hindi.
- Tap the globe key to switch languages while typing.
Part 4: Type Hindi on iPhone
- Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard.
- Choose Hindi and select Transliteration (English letters → Hindi) or Devanagari.
- Tap the globe key to switch keyboards.
No setup at all
On any device you can also use online Hindi typing: type namaste, press space and get नमस्ते, then copy it anywhere. Need the result in Kruti Dev for an office file? Paste it into Unicode to Krutidev.
