How to measure a plot for this calculator
- Walk round the plot and put a peg or mark at each corner.
- Measure each side from peg to peg with the tape pulled tight and flat — not over a slope or a bund.
- For an uneven plot, also measure one diagonal, from the A/D corner across to the B/C corner.
- Write every reading in the same unit — don’t mix feet and metres.
The maths behind it
Rectangle: length × breadth. Triangle: Heron’s formula — with sides a, b, c and s = (a + b + c) ÷ 2, area = √(s × (s − a) × (s − b) × (s − c)). Uneven four sides: the diagonal cuts the plot into two triangles; each is worked out with Heron’s formula and the two are added.
Example: sides 40, 62, 45 and 58 ft with a 75 ft diagonal. Triangle 1 (40, 62, 75) ≈ 1,239 sq ft, triangle 2 (45, 58, 75) ≈ 1,304 sq ft, so the plot is about 2,543 sq ft — roughly 5.84 decimal or 282.6 gaj.
Already have the area in one unit? Convert it with guntha to square feet, decimal to square feet or gaj to square feet.
