How to type in Hindi with an English keyboard
You don't need to learn a Hindi keyboard layout. Write each word the way it sounds and press space: mera naam raaj hai becomes मेर नाम राज है. Use aa for a long "aa" sound, so meraa gives मेरा. Consonants typed together join automatically into half letters — namaste gives नमस्ते.
शब्द को अंग्रेज़ी में वैसे ही लिखें जैसे बोलते हैं और स्पेस दबाएँ। लंबी मात्रा के लिए दो अक्षर लिखें — aa = ा, ii = ी, uu = ू।

- Each key gives one Kruti Dev character — the keyboard chart next to the typing box shows them all (top = with Shift).
f(ि) is typed before its letter (fd= कि);Z(र्) is typed after the letter and its matra.- Half letters become full with

Phonetic or Remington — which Hindi typing should you use?
- Phonetic (English letters)is the quickest way to write Hindi if you don't know a Hindi keyboard — for messages, letters, social media and documents. The result is Unicode Hindi that works everywhere.
- Remington (Kruti Dev) is the typewriter layout still used in many government typing tests and offices. Practise it here if your exam or job asks for Kruti Dev typing; copy the result into Word with the Kruti Dev 010 font.
Typing on a phone? Android and iPhone keyboards can add Hindi in their language settings. On Windows, you can add a Hindi keyboard under Settings → Time & language. This page is handy when you are on someone else's computer, can't install anything, or need Kruti Dev output.

- Untick Hindi to type English words in between.
- Copy and Download also convert the last word, even if you didn't press space.
