Mangal is the Hindi (Devanagari) font that comes with Microsoft Windows. It is a Unicodefont, which means text written in Mangal is stored as real Hindi letters. That is why government offices, e-office systems and online portals ask for documents "in Mangal font" — what they really want is Unicode Hindi.

Mangal vs Kruti Dev: the real difference
Kruti Dev 010 is an older, non-Unicode font. It stores Hindi as English keyboard characters and only draws them as Hindi — भारत is really saved as Hkkjr. If the reader doesn't have Kruti Dev installed, they see English letters. Mangal text stays readable everywhere, because any Unicode Hindi font can display it.
कृतिदेव में हिंदी अंग्रेज़ी अक्षरों के रूप में सेव होती है, जबकि मंगल (यूनिकोड) में असली हिंदी अक्षर — इसलिए मंगल हर कंप्यूटर और मोबाइल पर सही दिखता है।
Is Mangal the same as Unicode?
Practically, yes. Mangal is one of many Unicode Hindi fonts. Text you type in Mangal can be switched to Nirmala UI, Noto Sans Devanagari or any other Unicode font without changing a single letter — only the look changes. Newer Windows versions use Nirmala UIas the main Hindi font, and it works just as well when an office asks for "Mangal".
Do I need to download Mangal?
On a Windows computer, usually not — it is already installed. Open MS Word, type a few Hindi words and look for Mangal or Nirmala UIin the font list. On Android and iPhone you don't need it either: the phone's own Hindi font shows Unicode text correctly. Avoid "Mangal font download" files from unknown websites.
How to type in Mangal
- Without installing anything: use Hindi typing — write in English letters (
namaste→ नमस्ते), copy, paste into Word and choose Mangal. - On Windows:add a Hindi keyboard in Settings → Time & language → Language, then switch to it while typing.
- On a phone:add Hindi in your keyboard's language settings.
How to change Kruti Dev to Mangal
Retyping is not needed. Paste the Kruti Dev text into the Krutidev to Mangal converter, or drop the whole .docx file under it; the Hindi is converted to Unicode and set in Mangal, while English text, tables and formatting stay as they were. To go the other way — for a typing test or printer that still wants Kruti Dev — use Mangal to Krutidev.
